Giugiaro Design X Seiko Released a Motorcycle ‘Riders’ Watch, but You Can’t Have It

Italian designer Giugiaro Design and Japanese watchmaker Seiko have been working together for years designing a series of motorcycle inspired watches. This unusual partnership has been in existence for some time. It has resulted in a variety of unique, affordable watches.
Seiko and Giugiaro recently released the newest collaboration—an exclusive release of their iconic Rider’s Chronograph from the early 80s. This watch is practical, handsome and cheap. Too bad it is a piece of forbidden fruit.
The watch was specifically designed for motorcycle riders. It features a dial that is tilted 15-degrees clockwise, which makes it easy to read while hanging onto a handlebar. The watch face is also sloped five degrees towards the wearer. This design makes it more in line with the rider’s eye.
There are five versions of the Giugiaro Design x Seiko Riders Chronograph available. All of them use Seiko’s quartz chronograph movement. They also feature a battery life of five years. Four of the models will be available in stainless steel with a black hard coating. Only 1,500 of the black models will be made. One model will come in unfinished stainless steel and will be limited to 1,000 pieces total.
So, why can’t you have one of these watches? They will be released to the Japanese market only. If you really want one but a trip to Japan is out of the question, you might be in luck down the road. They will likely come up for sale on Amazon, com or Seiya Japan at some point.
